Halloween decorations don't necessarily have to be ghosts and pumpkins, witches and bats. In fact, a few pieces of scrap wood can become one of your favorite Halloween decorations ever! Don't have any wood pieces? Use cardboard or another material to make something similar. The wood or cardboard scraps can be assembled to make a cute stake out in the yard that features eerie warnings and creepy implications!
Use a yardstick or similar-shaped piece of wood as the signpost for the Halloween decoration. If you have wooden pieces use several of them to make your own creepy signs. Write "Enter If You Dare", "Haunted House", "Haunted Cemetery", " Beware", "Dead End" or other words and phrases. Write one on each board then nail them to the signpost. Attach the signs so they look rather sloppy. Don't center them, point one this way and that, and otherwise create the sign collection you want. If you don't have something you can use as a signpost you have the option of nailing the signs to a tree.
Use cardboard, if you have no wood, to make a similar signpost. Nail or otherwise affix the signs to a yardstick, pole or other post. So that the cardboard holds up under the weather simply use clear adhesive shelf liner to laminate the cardboard. Write the words or phrases on the cardboard pieces then cut the shelf paper to fit. Cut two identical pieces, position a sign on one of them, then place the other one over it. Trim the excess shelf liner around the perimeter of the sign. Don't have any shelf liner? Use ordinary plastic wrap instead. Wrap the sign so that the edges all meet around back. Use tape to secure the plastic before nailing up the sign.
Flat craft foam can be used to make the signposts for Halloween, too. Cut them from tan foam or another shade. Use a permanent marker to write the words and phrases on the various signs. These can be taped, stapled or even glued to a wooden pole.
Inside, you can use a plant pot and a flat, wooden stick to make a signpost for a table, a corner or another area. Glue a chunk of Styrofoam inside the pot and place the stick in the center. Pull the stick out, add glue, then place it back in the Styrofoam. Cut the signs from foam or cardboard and assemble them as you did the outdoor ones.
The fun signposts are so easy to make yet create an eerie look to your yard on Halloween. If you make the signs from wood you can put the decoration up until next year and use it again. If you make them from cardboard you can save them or just throw them away after the holiday.
