Five Free Things to Do Indoors in Dallas During the Summer

 With scorching temperatures outside, even the hardiest Dallas, Texas natives are scurrying for shelter inside. In fact, they are opting for indoor activities over outdoor activities with friends and family during these long hot days. So, to beat the heat without busting the budget, here are five free things to do indoors in the city this summer.

1. Dallas Museum of Art
Free First Tuesdays
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The first Tuesday of the month, Dallas Museum of Art hosts a free day for families through thematic art-making activities, story times, tours, special performances and gallery activities. The museum, 1717 N. Harwood, ranks among the leading art institutions in the country. Phone: 214-922-1312.

2. Nasher Sculpture Center
Free First Saturdays
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The first Saturday of the month, families gather for a free day of art projects, scavenger hunts, tours, sculpture demos, live performances and more. The Center, 2001 Flora Street, features a regularly changing selection of works from its collection. Phone: 214-242-5100.

3. Crow Collection of Asian Art
Free Museum Admission
10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fridays-Sundays (closed Mondays and certain holidays).
The Crow Collection provides free admission to its numerous galleries dedicated to the arts and cultures of China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. Additionally, on the first Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., families participate in art activities, face painting and more. 4. Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
Free Tours
1 p.m. on select Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (tours subject to change with rehearsals and performances so call in advance to confirm).
Take a free one-hour docent-led tour detailing points of interest throughout this breathtaking structure. Once a month, schedule permitting, visitors enjoy a 30-minute organ recital, followed by a tour (call for recital dates). The Meyerson, 2301 Flora Street, enhances the cultural life of Dallas. 5. Hall of State
Free Museum Admission
10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays; 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Discover Dallas and Texas history by spending a leisurely day perusing through the various collections inside the historic Hall of State building. Admission is free. The Hall, 2929 Grand Avenue in Fair Park, is also home to the Dallas Historical Society.
